This delicious, easy-to-prepare White Acre Peas recipe has been handed down through generations and they are a great way to eating more healthfully.
Rinse the White Acre Peas and remove any dark brown ones (not necessary but I do it)
Dice the bacon and onion in small pieces.
Set the Instant Pot to 'SAUTE' and add the butter. Add the bacon and cook until about done (you can skip butter if the bacon is super fatty). Add the onion and cook until translucent
Add the chicken stock and the peas. Salt and Pepper
Set to 'BEANS' (which is 15 minutes). Cook and the let slow release. Normally done about 30 minutes but you can let it continue slow cook until done. Never takes over an hour. If you need these under 30 - up the start cook time to 20 minutes. Add more salt as needed.
This is a great way to get a jump start on a week end. It's easy, quick, and cheap. Plus, you get a nice big container of something good to eat that your family will love. Plus, it's only a handful of ingredients!
This dish is good served hot or cold. It is a great make-ahead dish too.
These are the first few steps in what will be a very long process. Don't worry though, the actual cooking is easy.
Great food always tastes better when you've had a long day and it makes you feel better to eat something that was prepared for you. This is especially true when that something is as easy to prepare as a slow cooker meal.
